Frequently Asked Questions

Admission to an inpatient treatment center in Pennsylvania, including the Philadelphia and Montgomery County region, can feel overwhelming for patients and their families.

Our FAQs are designed to provide clear, reliable information about the admission process, what to bring, insurance coverage, and the care provided during and after treatment. If you would like to know more about our program, call us at (610) 539-8500 or submit the contact form.

Who qualifies for admission to Valley Forge Medical Center?

Valley Forge Medical Center treats patients who have both substance use disorders and significant medical conditions requiring hospital-level management. Examples include wound care, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, congestive heart failure, and other medical needs.

We provide care whether or not detox is required, offering a hybrid model that combines the medical oversight of a hospital with the recovery support of a rehab program. Patients receive daily counseling, structured activities, and recovery support while also having their medical issues managed. If you are too medically acute for traditional drug rehab but still need counseling and daily recovery programming that you won’t find in a general hospital, we are the right facility for you.

Do you accept out-of-state patients?

Yes. In most cases we can accept out-of-state patients, since many states do not offer hospital-level addiction treatment.

What types of treatment programs are available?

We provide hospital-level addiction treatment that includes detox, medical management of co-occurring health conditions, daily recovery supports, structured activities, and counseling.

Is detox medically supervised?

Detox at Valley Forge is not only medically supervised but medically managed. This means patients receive 24/7 physician oversight, nursing care, and medication support to ensure withdrawal is handled as safely and comfortably as possible.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial/private insurance.

How long does treatment usually last?

Length of stay varies based on how medically acute the patient is. Treatment may last anywhere from just a few days up to two weeks.

Do you treat co-occuring mental health conditions?

Yes. We treat conditions such as anxiety and depression in patients with substance use disorders. However, patients who are at risk of harming themselves or others typically require a locked psychiatric unit, which we are not.

Is there a checklist for admission? What should I or a loved one bring before treatment?

Yes. A full checklist of what to bring can be found on our website, just above the admissions form.

Can family members be involved in treatment?

Yes, family members can be involved in treatment planning and discharge coordination. However, we do not allow visitors during inpatient care, as visits can sometimes trigger relapse.

What happens after treatment?

Recovery doesn’t end at discharge. Our social work team will work closely with you to determine the next appropriate level of care and step you would like to take on your path to continued recovery.
